|Direct typhoon relief mission to the Philippines
||[Nov. 18th, 2013|09:23 pm]
A Facebook friend that I have known for a few years is leading his own personal relief mission to a small island in the Philippines. Each volunteer is paying their own travel expenses so 100% of any donations are going to the relief operation. I am donating to this group because I know several of these people have been to the Philippines before and care deeply about the people there.
They have a donation page at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/typhoon-yolanda-relief
Here is a short writeup from the co-leader about the relief goals:
Young Pioneer Tours – Disaster Responds Team update: 11.14.13
First I would like to thank our donors that have made contributions to our efforts already. You guys have instantly backed us, which means the world to the team and me. I can promise you we are going to represent you and YPT to the best of our abilities in our relief efforts.

This is Young Pioneer Tours first time putting together a disaster respond team, but not our first time organizing groups, logistics and team management. We have had a great response so fare from our fellow travelers, customers, family and friends. Within 3 days of launching our team, we have raised over $3,000 usd and recruited 12 people to our team. We have the skills and the team to really make a difference. We have not put a timeline on how long YPT will keep a team on the ground in the Philippines.
The more funding we get the longer we can stay and help. We have worked out logistics to get supplies from Manila to our forward operations base outside Cebu which was critical to our mission. As long as we continue to receive funding we will continue our relief operations.
In three days we have raised $3,000 usd. I would like to suggest a goal for all of us to raise $10,000usd before our team lands on the ground on the 1st of December. That gives us 16 days to meet our goal. At this rate we should be able to do this but we need everyone’s help. Please spread our message to every one you know. Donate if you have not, come join us if you can.
Our main mission will be to bring medical supplies, tool and building equipment to one of the hardest hit areas. The team so far is made up of several EMT, construction workers, and relief personnel. We will focus on providing medical attention, reconstruction support and relief to the people in the area we will be operation in.
